What is ADAS?

Designed to provide safety and comfort while driving, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are becoming ever more common in the latest generation of vehicles.

ADAS is designed to avoid collisions and accidents by offering technologies that alert the driver to potential problems, or to avoid collisions by implementing safeguards and taking control of the vehicle. Some examples include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and pedestrian and traffic sign recognition.

Understanding the concept of ADAS Calibration

ADAS Calibration refers to adjusting and aligning the sensors and cameras of the ADAS system to ensure accurate measurements and reliable functionality. The ADAS system, composed of sensors and cameras, detects potential hazards on the road and assists the driver in avoiding accidents.

These sensors and cameras must be properly calibrated to provide accurate information for timely warnings and correct vehicle responses.

A brief guide to ADAS Calibration

The ADAS Calibration process typically involves the following steps:

  • Checking the vehicle's specifications and requirements
  • Preparing the calibration equipment
  • Aligning the front-facing cameras
  • Calibrating the radar sensors
  • Verifying the calibration results
  • Providing a report to the vehicle owner

The equipment required for accurate ADAS Calibration

ADAS Calibration requires specialised equipment to precisely align the sensors and cameras. This equipment includes target boards, calibration targets, and diagnostic tools.

Additionally, advanced calibration systems use computer software to ensure accurate calibration and perform thorough diagnostic checks.
